Westwood Neighborhood Initiative
Morrison Road divides Westwood, a neighborhood of Denver, CO, into two parts, creating a lack of built identity, connectivity, and destination points. The existing urban design does not appropriately reflect the richness and diversity of Westwood. Overall redevelopment of the neighborhood will benefit community health. Targeted commercial growth will specifically impact the residents' economic conditions.
Redeveloping an important node (gateway node) along Morrison Road was a crucial first step to the development of a neighborhood suffering from a lack of basic services, safe open spaces, and connect places. I introduced density and diversity through mixed use developments (restaurant, office, cafe, bar, retail, apartment) and pockets of green spaces. This will not only give an identity to the neighborhood, but also create destination points in Westwood. New developments along Morrison Road will increase job opportunities for the community while three major roads running through the node will increase connectivity.
