Peabody Elementary
A schoolyard planning and design program fostering physical activity and academic success in schools and surrounding communities in Denver, CO.
The Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) awarded the Colorado Center for Community Development (CCCD) a contract in the amount of $417,225 to provide community engagement, design services and strategic implementation for active play areas in 40 schools located in Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties. These designs will provide more functional environments to encourage physical activity for both students and community residents. The funding is part of a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) $10.4 million grant awarded to TCHD to increase opportunities for communities to make healthy choices related to food and physical activity. This project serves as a capstone to that grant and is the first time that CDC has entertained a built environment for health initiatives such as this one.
Project Type: Professional project at Colorado Center for Community Development.
