Nanjing Neighborhood Redevelopment
Introducing Eco-Agriculture into the fabric of the Nanjing’s Chang Gan Li neighborhood towards creating a model community for sustainable practices and restoring its fishing village history.
Eco-Agricultural node:
The main goal of this node is to explore and share new technologies and food cultivation practices in a dense, urban setting. This idea stemmed from the site’s history as an agricultural and fishing village. This history has been re-imagined within a modern framework to integrate traditional lifestyles within a rapidly-growing cityscape. This central corridor extends along the inner canal system from the south end of the site through a green spine in the center of the neighborhood to the river and city wall at the north end. The corridor links the main transportation hub with a central park space that also acts as an ecological research hub. The research hub takes the form of a group of islands within a central lake that invites visitors to explore new ideas. This corridor continues north toward the agricultural Exhibition Island adjacent to the Qinhuai River and the city wall. The island incorporates park space with exhibition space for the aforementioned technologies and practices.
